Welcome to the OSS Discovery Project
|
|

OSS Discovery is an open source tool that finds
installed open source software. It can be used to
inventory open source software across an enterprise or on
a single computer. Using OSS Discovery, individuals and
companies can easily contribute data about how much open
source software is being used to
The Open Source Census.

Project Goals
Most enterprises are using open source
software in many areas of their business. However, open
source typically bypasses traditional procurement
processes, making it difficult for companies to
accurately inventory their open source usage. OSS
Discovery was created to solve this problem. It helps
enterprises easily create an inventory of installed open
source software. This inventory, enables enterprises
to:
-
Develop support and maintenance
plans
-
Comply with open source licenses
-
Measure and communicate the benefits of
open source software
-
Find opportunities to use more open
source software
OSS Discovery will also be used to support
The Open Source Census. Learn more at

Make Sure OSS Discovery can Find Your Favorite
Project
OSS Discovery 2.0 has a new pluggable
architecture that enables the open source community to
contribute fingerprint rules that OSS Discovery uses to
find each open source software package. We are now
looking for your help in expanding the list of available
fingerprints. To make sure OSS Discovery can find your
favorite open source package, check out
How to Participate and
Contribute Fingerprints for more information.
